Where is Los Cabos?

Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo are located at the southern tip of the Baja Peninsula, within the state of Baja California Sur. The two cities of Los Cabos are connected by 25 miles known as The Corridor.

How do I get to Los Cabos?

The San Jose del Cabo International Airport is a short flight from most major US airports, including non-stop services from San Diego, Los Angeles, San Jose, Seattle, Salt Lake City, Denver, Chicago, Atlanta, Minneapolis, Phoenix, Houston, Dallas, and Las Vegas. Connections are easily found from Sacramento, Portland, Detroit, Boston, New York, Newark, Oklahoma City, St Louis, Miami, Albuquerque, and Austin. Commercial carriers that service San Jose del Cabo include Alaska Airlines, Aeromexico, Air Canada, American, Delta, United, Southwest, Jet Blue, and Sun Country.

Private jet charters are also possible into both San Jose del Cabo and a smaller airport nearer to Cabo San Lucas, and many cruises out of Los Angeles or San Diego call at Cabo San Lucas. By land, Hwy 1 travels the length of Baja in 22 hours.

The San Jose del Cabo international airport is 8 miles north of town with options upon arrival of pre-arranged shuttles, taxis, and car rentals. Cabo San Lucas is 29 miles further.

Do I need a passport to visit Los Cabos?

All US citizens arriving by land or sea will need a passport to enter Mexico.

Do I need to rent a car?

It is strongly recommended for your convenience to rent a car for your time in Los Cabos. Many of our villa locations are best reached by car and having your own vehicle allows you to shop, dine, and sightsee at your own leisure. There is a wide range of vehicles available and we encourage you to reserve ahead for best price and availability. We can also arrange private transport during your stay, including airport shuttles, chauffeured car service, and taxis.

What are the license and insurance requirements to drive in Baja?

A US driver’s license is valid in Mexico but US auto insurance is not. You will need to purchase Mexican insurance through your rental car company. Always drive with caution and follow local traffic regulations.

Los Cabos abounds in fresh, local dining opportunities that range from casual taco outlets to gourmet experiences in elegant, refined settings. Mexican and Bajan specialties are plentiful but you’ll also find Asian, French, Italian, and American cuisines. We can also coordinate grocery stocking and private chef services for you to enjoy dining at your villa.

 

What should I know about golfing in Los Cabos?

Los Cabos is a mecca for golfers, home to many highly rated and expertly designed courses that cater to a variety of abilities. Lessons and club rentals are also readily available. Please note that popular courses can be busy at peak times; we strongly advise planning in advance and would be glad to assist you. 

What’s the deep sea fishing like in Los Cabos?

Los Cabos is known to have some of the finest deep sea fishing in the world, throughout the seasons. A unique confluence of cool Pacific waters and the warmer Sea of Cortez makes Los Cabos rich in marine life. This is the marlin capital of the world, being home to striped, black, and blue marlin varieties. Other commonly found fish include dorado, mackerel, tuna, sea bass, swordfish, snapper, wahoo, and roosterfish.

What’s the nightlife like in Los Cabos?

Simply put, San Jose del Cabo is more subdued and Cabo San Lucas is more raucous, but both locations contain mellow venues as well as late night party spots. In Cabo San Lucas, popular establishments include Jungle Bar, Love Shack, Mandala, La Vaquita, Squid Row, and Cabo Wabo Cantina, while San Jose del Cabo is home to Tropicana and Cactus Jacks. The legal minimum drinking age in Los Cabos is 18.

Is there internet service in Los Cabos?

Our rental villas include wireless internet access. Complimentary Wifi is also common within Cabo San Lucas.

What do I need to know about using my phone in Los Cabos?

We recommend that you check with your service provider in advance, as some cell plans allow roaming in Mexico and some have extra charges and data costs.

The country code for Mexico 52 and the area code for Los Cabos is 624. Directory assistance in Mexico is 202 and for emergencies, dial 066. All local cell numbers are treated as a long distance call and from a US phone, must be dialed as 011-52-624 then the local 7 digit number.

What is the electrical current in Los Cabos?

Electric current in Los Cabos is 110 volts, 60 cycles AC and is generally compatible with US appliances.

Are credit cards generally accepted throughout Los Cabos?

Visa and Mastercard are readily accepted, with American Express and Discover being less common. Cash is king in Los Cabos and it’s recommended to inquire in advance whether an establishment accepts cards.

What should I know about currency in Los Cabos?

US dollars are accepted nearly everywhere, though pesos are useful outside of tourist areas. Exchange only what you expect to need; once currency is exchanged to pesos, it is not easy to change back. The best exchange rate is found at the airport and at banks.

What type of clothing should I bring to Los Cabos?

Pack light and expect sunny and humid weather year round. A jacket or sweater is useful for evening breezes.
